Analysis: ASEAN urged to enact laws for clearer skies, as member-states bicker again over transboundary haze

In the wake of the current haze pollution blanketing much of ASEAN, CNA interviewed Kiu Jia Yaw for his views on the way forward to fight this regional problem.

In the interview, Jia Yaw spoke about the need for a Malaysian transboundary haze pollution legislation to govern Malaysian businesses operating overseas. At the regional level, Malaysia can take leadership in improving the 2002 ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution by developing a legal mechanism to improve corporate responsibility across the region, particularly in respecting business and human rights.
