The Minister of Economy, YB Rafizi Ramli chaired the meeting, which was the Steering Committee's first meeting for 2023
The National SDG Steering Committee held its first meeting for 2023 on 18 April 2023, at the Ministry of Economy.
Chaired by the Minister of Economy, YB Rafizi Ramli, the meeting was attended by Deputy Minister, Dato' Hajjah Hanifah Hajar Taib, representatives from all relevant ministries, agencies and other stakeholders. Karima El Korri, the United Nations Resident Coordinator was also present.
Lavanya Iyer and Jia Yaw attended on behalf of the Malaysian CSO-SDG Alliance. It was great that many Alliance members - civil society organisations - could also join this high-level meeting online. The openness is greatly appreciated.
The meeting discussed revisions to the SDG administrative structure, determination of national targets for our SDG Roadmap (Phase II, 2021-2025), planning of the national SDG summit, updates on the voluntary local revie & cities roadmap, wrangled over the categorisation of SDG indicators and more. The meeting took almost 4 hours.
