Jia Yaw spoke about the importance of social inclusion during The Star ESG Summit.
Star Media Group Berhad organised The Star ESG Summit 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The summit provided participants with multiple learning opportunities on the streams of Governance & Sustainable Reporting, Economic Security & Value Chain Decarbonisation, and Climate & Sustainable Innovations.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, YB Nik Nazmi delivered the keynote and showed his support for the private sector’s move towards pursuing ESG. He stated that safeguarding the environment, supporting people, and strengthening governances are key goals essential for Malaysia to develop as a competitive and resilient economy.
Jia Yaw represented the Malaysian CSO-SDG Alliance and Bar Council Environment and Climate Change Committee in a panel discussion entitled “Social Impact and Inclusion: Fostering Equality and Well-Being”. The panel was moderated by Zikry Kholil (Co-Founder & Chairman, Incitement), with the following panellists:

Jia Yaw spoke from a civil society and policy perspective, where he shared how effective ESG policies in businesses can translate into positive social and environmental impacts. He underscored that a strong ESG strategy is inherently inclusive, advocating for diverse teams and voices in its formulation and implementation. Diversity brings broader perspectives, experiences, and insights, leading to more comprehensive, equitable, and impactful ESG policies.
